Cottrelle Boulevard Extension
The Concern
The planned extension of Cottrelle Boulevard crosses through an area full of old-growth trees (some older than 200 years) which will be cut down. The need for this road has been questioned.
Background
On May 11th, 2007, members of Greenvisions and the Sierra Club of Canada (Peel Group) stepped in to prevent the destruction of old-growth trees after receiving a call from a concerned community member.
The Region of Peel had begun work on laying a water main from Humberwest Parkway to Goreway, and many old-growth trees (from 100 to 200+ years old) were marked for destruction. Worse still, the planned extension of Cottrelle Boulevard would cross through the same area.
A rapid response led to discussion and some of the older trees were saved. However, the issue of the road extension remains unresolved.
Latest News
The Region's work to lay the water main has been completed. We were able to save a number of old-growth trees from destruction.
The construction of the road extension remains an ongoing matter. If you are concerned, please e-mail your local councillor, or contact us for more information.
